Shattered Dreams

"Shattered dreams are never random. They are always a piece in a larger puzzle, a chapter in a larger story. The Holy Spirit uses the pain of shattered dreams to help us discover our desire for God, to help us begin dreaming the highest dream. They are ordained opportunities for the Spirit to awaken, then to satisfy our highest dream." -Larry Crabb

2011 was not a blissful, peaceful year for our family. We spent much of the year on our knees, praying for answers, praying for deliverance, praying for the Lord to intervene. ...and God has been faithful and provided- both the ability to handle the hard things, and answers to those prayers. All through this, I've keep coming back to suffering-what it means to suffer, why we suffer, how our faith grows and matures and deepens through and because of our suffering.

I don't have any big theological conclusions to share with you, just this: when awful things happen, Jesus is right there. When your dealing with the aftermath, the sadness and grief, Jesus is right there. When prayers are answered in ways that you wouldn't have chosen, in a time you wouldn't have chosen, Jesus is right there. I keep going back and looking at a text my son sent me on December 21-I'm not even sure what it refers to, but it says, "I can't wait to suffer for Christ!" May we all be so willing to suffer for the Lord.
